Leukemia Ball 2022 Health & Safety Standards

*Last updated 01/19/2022. LLS will continue to monitor and follow the changing landscape involving the CDC and Washington, D.C. government guidelines regarding COVID-19 safety protocols and provide updates to this page.

We look forward to celebrating in person with all sponsors and guests at the 35th Annual Leukemia Ball on June 18, 2022, at the Marriott Marquis! As a mission-driven health organization, nothing is more important than the safety and well-being of blood cancer patients, their families, and the many staff, volunteers, donors, partners, and campaign participants who serve them. We will be implementing several mandatory health and safety standards for all guests attending this event.

Here is what we are doing to protect your health and peace of mind:

To protect the safety of the Leukemia Ball guests and our industry, all guests, sponsors, and individuals (age 12+) working or attending the event are required to show proof that they have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine (5) days prior to the event. Patrons who have and show documentation of medical or religious exemption from the vaccine must provide a negative PCR or antigen test within 24 hours of the event. Documentation of exemption should also be provided, such as a note from a medical provider or from the patron that they have a sincerely held religious belief.

  • We have established a dedicated page on the VaxYes platform, which will be used to verify your vaccination. Please note your privacy and safety is protected and LLS does not store or have access to your medical records. LLS is using a third-party app, VaxYes, to provide us with guest’s verification status to grant you entry to the Leukemia Ball.
  • Those planning to attend will need to submit your verification through the VaxYes platform as soon as possible. A link will be emailed, please contact LLS staff at leukemiaball@lls.org if you have not received this. The deadline for all sponsors and attendees to submit your verification through VaxYes is no later than (5) days prior to the June 18th Leukemia Ball.

The Leukemia Ball is a fully masked event when guests are moving about. Similar to what is required in many restaurants, please come prepared to be fully masked except for when you are seated and actively eating and drinking.

Health Checks are safety protocols to help reduce attendee exposure to COVID-19. All guests will need to complete a brief symptom checker through VaxYes within 72 hours of the Leukemia Ball event.

As part of Marriott International’s family of brands, Marriott Marquis Washington, D.C. has implemented a variety of new protocols and elevated practices, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and keeping with our high standards of cleanliness and commitment to providing excellent service.

  • Enhanced Public Space Cleaning: Marriott locations have increased the frequency of cleaning and disinfection, particularly in areas with high traffic including restrooms, elevators, and escalators as well as provided more hand sanitizing stations.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Staff members will wear PPE (e.g., face coverings, gloves, etc.) based on the activities they are performing and based on direction by the local authorities. Food handlers are trained on safe food preparation and service practices.
  • Electrostatic Spraying: We’re utilizing enhanced technologies, including electrostatic sprayers with hospital-grade disinfectants, to support our already rigorous cleanliness protocols.
  • Signage throughout the hotel reminds guests to maintain social distancing, occupancy limits and seating capacities. Partitions are installed at the front desk, bell stand and valet desk for everyone’s safety.

As a research and advocacy organization, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is doing everything in our power to ensure public safety. We are requiring you to do your part as well in helping to protect vulnerable populations. Together, we can experience a safe and inspiring 35th annual Leukemia Ball.
