The James L. Eichberg Lifetime Achievement Award has been established in memory of Jim Eichberg, a long-time volunteer and supporter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society who made service to others an integral part of his daily life.

The award recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of an individual who has demonstrated significant dedication and commitment to the mission of LLS, thereby making a significant impact on the lives of patients and families. The recipient will also have demonstrated the same longstanding commitment to community and volunteerism as the award’s namesake, James L. Eichberg.

At the 26th Anniversary Leukemia Ball on March 23, 2013, we were proud to announce that the recipient of the first-ever James L. Eichberg Lifetime Achievement Award winner: Ms. Tamara Darvish.

Since 2001, Tammy has devoted her time, energy and extraordinary talents to improving the lives of patients and families battling blood cancers. For over 10 years, she co-chaired The Bobby Mitchell Hall of Fame Classic, raising over $5 million! Under Tammy’s exceptional leadership and guidance, The Bobby Mitchell Hall of Fame Classic grew into one of the premier golf events in the DC Metropolitan Area. But it is Tammy’s incomparable passion for helping our patients and their families that truly sets her apart. She continually looks for ways, big and small, to ease the cancer journey for those battling leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease or myeloma. Whether it is as simple as providing a meal or as profound as granting a dying wish, Tammy is committed to making it happen.

Tammy’s impact on our community extends far beyond her work for LLS. Over the years, Tammy has touched the lives of countless individuals – patients, family members, students and our U.S. troops. Her impact on the lives of those struggling with disease or poverty reaches from our local community to an impoverished community in India, where she and her family spent several days over this past Thanksgiving holiday. Locally, Tammy has devoted her energies to helping a variety of organizations including The Aleethia Foundation, The Alzheimer’s Association, Capital Area Food Bank, The Children’s Inn at NIH, District of Columbia & Montgomery County Public Schools, Goodwill of Greater Washington, MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, Holy Cross Hospital, Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless and The Parkinson Foundation, among others.

In her spare time, Tammy is Vice President of DARCARS Automotive Group. She is the recipient of numerous awards, including Manheim’s Automotive Woman of the Year and the Women’s Automotive Association International’s Spirit of Leadership Award. Tammy is a noted industry speaker and sits on numerous industry boards and committees. In 2010 she was named one of the 100 Leading Women in North American Auto Industry.

We were thrilled to welcome our 2013 musical guest, Jim Belushi & The Sacred Hearts Band, as well as our hilarious comedian, Dana Carvey. Their performances started with guests laughing in their seats and up dancing the night away!
